Obituary - John William "Bill" Baker

John William "Bill" Baker, age 85, of Ozark, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, in Ozark Nursing and Care Center. He was born July 19, 1912, in Wichita, Kan., and was the son of Dean and Marcia (Wentz) Baker. He lived in Kansas City before moving to Springfield at the age of nine. He graduated from Springfield High School. Bill was a electrician for California Shipyards following World War II. It was here that he met Grace Louise Ivanhoe. They were married Nov. 29, 1946. Bill purchased a farm in Gracie Lou farmed and raised six children. Survivors include: his wife, Gracie Lou Baker, five children, Patricia Koonce and her husband, John, Jefferson City; Jack Baker and his wife, Rhonda, Ozark; Steve Baker, Georgia; Robert Baker and his companion, Lisa, Rockledge, Fla.; and Kathleen Lee and her husband, Michael, Durant, Okla.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Wallace-Baker; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Nimmo, Texas and Margaret Ann Pierce, Springfield. A son, James Baker, and an infant granddaughter preceded him in death. His body has been donated to science through the University of Missouri, Columbia through Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Private memorial services were Tuesday, March 31, 1998 in Ozark and Nursing Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southwestern Missouri Chapter or the charity of the donor's choice.
