  In 1861, Daniel Guffey left his family behind and joined the Union Army (18th Regiment, Missouri Infantry). His unit became part of General Sherman's famous march through Georgia and, after the war ended, joined the celebration march through Washington, D.C. Daniel was discharged on 18 July 1865. Upon returning home on leave, he told his wife that he wanted to name their next child Sherman, regardless of whether it was a boy or girl. Thus, on 13 Dec 1864 daughter Antoinette "Nettie" Sherman Guffey was born. Antoinette Guffey Sterling died of typhoid fever at age 26 in the Creek Nation, OK, and was buried at Choska, OK, between Tulsa and Mukogee. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Headstone for Antoinette at Choska Cemetery reads "Antnett, wife of F. L. Sterling, died Dec. 30 1890, 26 years -- days". Bottom part contains illegible words. Choska Cemetery is located east of Haskell, Wagoner County, Oklahoma. From Center Street in Haskell, take Hwy 104 east (or from road 51B go 3 miles south on Hwy 104), turn east on E. 231st Street South, go about 1 mile up the hill. On the north side on the road you will find a very small sign on a fence post that simple reads "Cemetery". Choska Cemetery is overgrown with brush and has a severe tick infestation problem in the summer months.
